Discover the photographer in you as you learn basic tips in photography; learn a few techniques before printing your shots on photo canvas.
Photo canvas brings to life the best of your pictures. Both amateur and professional photographers get a kick at seeing their works of art displayed on canvas. But just before you invest money on making canvas prints, here are a few basic tips in photography for beginners.
One, have a clear understanding that you should not depend on the quality or power of your camera. The most expensive professional camera models have their edge but what really matters is you, the man behind the camera. Some of the most compelling shots were taken using the simplest handheld digital cameras.
You shouldn’t worry about what you have in hand but about how you use it. Before learning the advantages of having a powerful camera and lens, develop in you an eye for beauty. Work on your composition, something that you can do even without a camera!
Look around you; what do you see? Have a keen eye for colors; see how colors match, how they pop and create a message, how well they blend with the sky as backdrop, and so on. It’s not rocket science determining which color attracts people best and using what combination.
In addition to color, look around you and realize that nature also takes on several shapes. What shapes do you see and how appealing is it to see repeating patterns? If you look more closely at Mother Nature, you will realize that she is fond of repeating shapes, lines, textures and patterns, as though she is compelling people to look at her creation.
Try this: block your mind from anything else and look at a tiny flower more closely than you normally would. Everyone knows that flowers are beautiful, but what makes a flower stand out on photographs when pictures are completely devoid of smell? Nature’s combination of shape and color makes flowers beautiful to photograph.
In case you haven’t noticed, a flower has repeating lines and shapes. They also have standout colors that match perfectly with the green (grass) and blue (sky) background. This is what a flower does to attract bees, and you can use it to attract people with your photography.
Learn from a flower. Take pictures of repeating shapes and lines such as a row of windows, a column of cars, wheels lined up, and so on. And take pictures of bright striking colors on a relatively dull background.
Finally, take a look at yourself before taking a shot. Where are you in relation to your subject? Take a picture from the point of view of a bird (looking down) or a worm (looking up), and know that a tiny change of angle can significantly improve your picture.
These are basic tips in photography that you can play around with. The two real advantages of using digital photography is that you can take as many shots as you can and you can view your pictures immediately after you took them. If you are happy with a shot, keep it and have it printed on photo canvas later on.
