"On no!" said the cat, swiping his tail across my face, "you must never go down that way."
I gasped. "Are you that cat from that Murakami novel?" I asked. "My girlfriend would *kill* for an autograph."
The cat rolled his eyes. "I was also Puss in Boots on Broadway, but do people talk about that?!" He grumbled. "Follow me."
I'd been wandering the labyrinth for hours; having a guide was a welcome change. Still, I wasn't sure he could be trusted.
and as we progressed, it was as if, in fleeting shadows, he changed, taking on new form from the shadows and lamplights
“Nothing is ever as it seems,” he said, smiling “except when you think they aren't.” Up the road we saw a figure approaching
He wore a red jacket and walked with a cane. He looked like the man on the whisky label. The cat was not happy to see him.
“You’re all alone." the man said. I saw that the cat was gone. “I’m always alone,” I said “even when I am with other people."
